Summer Transfer window opens May 28 for students
The summer transfer window will be open May 28, 8:00 AM through July 12, 2013, 4:00 PM. Parents/legal guardians of kindergarten students, students new to Knox County, students who have had change in family circumstances such as custody or guardianship or students who moved their residence since February 18, 2013 may apply for a transfer during the summer window. Additionally, the summer transfer window will be open to anyone wishing to apply for a “Magnet” transfer to Magnet schools where space is available.(Details)

Next Year's Schedule information
With the further implementation of Common Core Standards, we are realigning our Master Schedule to address the requirements of a more rigorous curriculum. Language Arts and Reading will be combined into one course (ELA), and all core curriculum classes (Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies) will be extended to 75 minutes in length. Related Arts courses will be 60 minutes in length. Students will be enrolled in two Related Arts classes and will attend one of them each day on an alternating schedule. We will continue to offer Intervention and Enrichment opportunities each day. Please feel free to contact the school, or your child’s teacher, if you have any questions. A link with further information regarding Common Core State Standards may be found on the Knox County Schools homepage.  Click here to download this information.
HealthierUS School Challenge


Gresham Middle School received Bronze Status in the HealthierUS Schools Challenge. The award is a result of Knox County Schools Coordinated School Health and Knox County Schools Food and Nutrition department who work collaboratively to meet established
criteria. The HealthierUS School Challenge was introduced through Michelle Obama’s national “Let’s Move!” campaign to fight childhood obesity. It is intended to help Americans take positive steps to improving personal health though a nutritious diet, physical activity, preventative screenings and healthy food choices.
Attention Parents of Current 6th Graders
Current 6th Parents, beat the RUSH! If you are a parent of a current 6th grade student you need to contact your medical provider or Knox County Health Department at 215-5150 to see if your child has proof of Tdap and (2) Chickenpox vaccines. Your child will need proof of these vaccinations on a new TN Certificate of Immunization turned in to the school office before they can enter the 7th grade. You are urged to obtain the immunizations and/or certificates now and turn them in before the end of the current school year.
8th Grade Dance Pictures
The 8th Grade Dance was held Saturday, May 11 from 6pm to 9pm in the Gresham Middle School Commons. A photographer took candid shots throughout the evening and a GROUP shot at 7:45. Summer School 2013
Gresham Middle School will be providing a free summer school program beginning June 3rd and ending June 28th at Shannondale Elementary. The program will last from 8:30 to 1:30 each day and is designed for current 6th and 7th grade students who have shown a need for additional academic assistance in the ares of reading, writing, and specifically mathematics. If you feel that your child needs additional help and would benefit from the program, please complete a summer school enrollment form by Friday, May 10th. If you have any questions contact the summer school principal, Jenny Alvey Grosche at jenny.alvey@knoxschools.org.

World Languages Courses

Gresham Middle School will be offering two World Languages classes for next year's 8Th grade students. Any 8Th grade student enrolled in honors English/Language Arts has the opportunity to participate in a World Languages class.  In order to meet scheduling challenges, French I and Latin I will occur in the Zero Block (7:30-8:30am). Since these classes will take place before the start of the regular school day, transportation will not be provided. Parents will be responsible for bringing their students to school on time.  For more information please download the attached forms.

8Th Grade HS Credit Courses

GMS Gladiator Zumbathon
Come out and get some fantastic exercise to start the summer right. Whether you are a die hard ZUMBA fitness fanatic, or if you have never done a class before, you will fit right in. GMS Cheerleaders are hosting a Zumbathon fundraiser Friday, May 17 from 6:30-8:30pm at New Fellowship Christian Academy Gymnasium. (click here for directions) Cost is $10 donation per person.
